1) Opa is a physician.
Also learned, Opa doesn't mind if his medical school diploma is in a $2 frame, and he thinks the guest bedroom (which is NEVER seen by guests, mind you) is an appropriate place to hang it.
2) Oma is as staunch a Republican as you have ever met.
3) They don't throw ANYTHING away.
4) They have fantastic taste.
How great is this quilt???
Unfortunately, it is reversible... YIKES!
And this lamp?? I can't WAIT until I have a room to put it in. I think it is so fantastically retro!
This is only 1 room of their house. Think what you might find if you explored the whole thing!
Full story as to why I was taking random pics of my grandparent's guest room: For President's Day weekend, Opa and I decided to make the drive to Crested Butte for a few days of snow skiing. Dad was already up there, so it was just me, Opa, and Gracie Doll... for 14 hours... each way. I learned LOTS about my family, and Opa was wildly entertaining (as always), but this post isn't about the adventure of a drive we had. This is about the night before we left.
Dad and Opa thought it would be best if I stayed at Oma and Opa's house the night before we were to leave so that we could get on the road promptly at our normal time... 4:15am. They went to bed at normal grandparent time (8pm sharp), and, after I finished my book, I was left with nothing to do. So I started taking pictures of all the weird stuff in their guest room. And by weird, I mean awesome.
Oma's and Opa's three children: Kurt, Gretchen, and Kristin.
(These depictions are so far off that the painter could have been painting an entirely different family... which is probably why the paining is in the guest room.)
