Snowpocolypse in Review
Since it is official Spring (break), I feel it is time to look back on the great Snowpocolypse of 2011. As we survived, I feel obligated to pass along the knowledge gained from our experiences. You are welcome.
Supplies:
The night before:
Supplies:
Bread? Nope.
Coffee
Boots and YakTracks
Milk, sugar, and vanilla. (Stay tuned...)
Blankets, slippers, and heating pads. It's frickin freezing!
A snow shovel.
Several tennis balls for the pup.
A new car with 4-wheel drive. (Her name is Champ after this great storm.)
Bread? Still no.
Plenty of booze.
The night before:
You'll know it is coming, so it's okay to prepare mentally.
Obviously, mental preparation requires a trip to Ricardos. Why? Because school is out tomorrow!!
I hope you didn't wait until now to go to the grocery store, because this is what you will find.
AAAAAAHHHHHH! Bread we can do without, but no chips?!
Waking up:
Hopefully, your boyfriend will bring you this plate of yumminess, as to distract you from the disaster zone in which your home currently sits.
When your dog won't go outside, you'll peek out the back door to see this. (Hey, wasn't I just sitting here in my shorts 3 days ago??)
And then the front door...
And it only gets worse.
Day 1--What NOT to do: Walk to the boat show two blocks away in the blizzard.
Not even booze will make this fun.
This is in the middle of Knoxville Ave.
This is 17th Street.
21st Street
Make sure you take cash to the boat show because they don't take cards, and all the ATMs will be broken. Thank goodness for nice security guards.
There were like, 3 people at the boat show, and they weren't selling margs!
It was nice to finally get back home.
Day 2--What you should have done Day 1: Shovel the driveway.
Shoveling fuel
Suited up!
That fence that I'm so proud of helped build a 4 foot snow drift in our driveway.
There are steps there usually.
Gracie supervised.
About 2 hours in.
He wasn't sure how far to go out into the street...?
While Nick worked his ass off, I played with the dog.
As a reward for Nick's hard work, we enjoyed some snow ice cream! (Thanks, Tine, for the recipe!)
We froze the leftovers and added some chocolate sauce!
Day 3--Venturing out.
We went to check Dad's pipes. This is the pile of snow that was in his driveway.
Then, we tried to make a pathway to get Nick's truck out of the neighbor's driveway. It didn't work.
After making a grocery run and picking up my mother from work,
we took a gander at the next day's forecast.
Great...
Day 4--Round 2.
Good thing Nick cleared that driveway...
We still made it to Rancho though!
QT opened back up. Thank GOD!
Exhausted from our day of rescuing stranded drivers and reshoveling the driveway, we settled down for dinner and a movie.
Onion chicken. Recipe coming soon. YUM!
Note: Don't watch Inception when surviving snowpocolypse. It has no end.
Here's hoping the worst is over.
